Sophie D: I started playing netball when I was seven. My primary school, St Kevin's Eastwood, had a netball club so I joined a team with my friends. The school's PE teacher was my coach. I have loved playing netball ever since I first started.
Whitney S: I started playing netball when I was eight years old. I grew up watching my sister play and always looked up to her, so that's where my love for the game began.
Erin O: I started playing netball when I was about six. I wanted to play just like my sister and fell in love with the sport straight away.
Sophie D: A typical training day usually starts with a team meeting where we chat about our upcoming opposition. Then we head into a court session followed by a gym session. We also may have individual catch-ups with our coaches and other high performance staff such as the physio, dietitian and strength and conditioning coach.
Whitney S: A typical training day is all about making sure I’m fuelled and hydrated for what’s ahead. I like to stay as relaxed as possible so I can focus, and going for a walk or getting out and about is a must.
Erin O: It usually starts with the hour drive to training, followed by team meetings, gym, court work, Pilates, lunch with the girls and video analysis.
Sophie D: Not really, but I do have a particular shooting routine I like to complete before a game.
Whitney S: I always make sure to say a prayer on game day.
Erin O: Not really, but I like to stick to a similar schedule. I’ll usually have a bacon and egg English muffin for breakfast and pasta the night before.
Sophie D: All my coaches but especially Julie Fitzgerald. She believed in young 18 year old Sophie and I’m super grateful to have learnt so much from her.
Whitney S: My family.
Erin O: There are so many people. My Under 12 representative coach instilled a belief in me that I definitely didn’t have before. My parents and siblings have also been major influences as they’ve sacrificed so much and have always been my biggest supporters.
Sophie D: Debuting for both GIANTS Netball and the Australian Diamonds.
Whitney S: Making my debut for the Silver Ferns.
Erin O: Probably my debut for the GIANTS. I was so nervous and excited, and I wasn’t expecting to step on the court. Getting to play with and against so many legends I looked up to growing up was incredibly special.
Sophie D: I always make sure to have some down time away from netball to ensure I can show up as my best self, focused and ready, on court.
Whitney S: I reach out to the support services we have available, go for walks and stay connected with my faith.
Erin O: I spend time with family and friends, enjoy walks, brunches, shopping and watching my favourite movies and shows. We’ve also recently started a knitting club at the GIANTS, which I’ve really been enjoying.
Sophie D: Be curious, ask questions and always be open to learn something new.
Whitney S: You can do anything you put your mind to. Always believe in yourself and do the hard work when no one is watching.
Erin O: Have fun and enjoy what you do. If you love the game, you’ll play your best netball and give yourself the best opportunity to succeed.
Sophie D: I would say dealing with non-selection. Although it always adds extra motivation to achieve your next goal.
Whitney S: Rupturing my ACL in 2015. It was my first serious injury and tested me in so many ways, but it made me even hungrier to get back on the court and strengthened my passion for the game.
Erin O: Growing up, not making representative teams was hard. Looking back, though, it helped build resilience and gave me the determination to work as hard as I could to improve.
Sophie D: Chatty, competitive, calm.
Whitney S: Calm, caring and old (lol).
Erin O: Caring, hardworking, kind.
Sophie D: Thank you so much for your support, we appreciate and value you all! Stick with us, we are building and exciting things are ahead.
Whitney S: Thank you so much for your support. We see you and we hear you. Thank you for sticking with us and believing in us.
Erin O: Thank you for being our biggest supporters and cheerleaders. We’re an incredibly united and connected group, working hard to keep improving. This team is special and something incredible is growing.
Sophie D: Our team culture is built on connection. We support each other and stick together through it all.
Whitney S: No matter what, our team shows up every week with a positive attitude. We always give our best and support each other along the way.
Erin O: We’re such a connected group, both players and staff, and we’re all striving to get better together. It’s an incredibly special environment to be part of.
Sophie D: Sunrise at the beach then spending the day outside in the sunshine.
Whitney S: Spending time with my nieces, nephews and my dog.
Erin O: A sleep-in, brunch with friends, an infrared sauna, watching my favourite YouTubers or TV show, spending time with family and enjoying good food.
Sophie D: Mr Brightside by The Killers.

Erin O: Untouched by The Veronicas.
Sophie D: I can juggle.
Whitney S: I’m also a DJ.
Erin O: I used to do rowing as well as netball at school.
Sophie D: It means building movement into everyday life, staying consistent and creating healthy habits.
Whitney S: Doing whatever you love to get your body moving—whether that’s walking your dog, going to the gym or running around after your nieces and nephews.
Erin O: Getting outside and doing whatever activities you enjoy and that work for you.
Sophie D: Since we are often travelling for matches and need to transport our gear, the High Sierra wheeled duffle bags are amazing as they are practical and lightweight.

Whitney S: Shoes lots of shoes! Plus my netball gear, ice and easy packs, clothes, food, books and my speaker. The different compartments make it easy to fit everything.
Erin O: There’s so much space that I can always pack everything I need especially plenty of jumpers!
Sophie D: All the pockets and compartments! As well as it being super lightweight, so it’s easy to wheel around.
Whitney S: It has plenty of compartments so you can separate your shoes from your clothes and keep everything organised. I also love that you can wheel it, carry it by the handle or wear it as a backpack.
Erin O: There are so many pockets and so much space to fit everything you need, which is perfect for me because I love to overpack!
